Invited by design Education Centro, Simone de Waart trained insight in thinking about sensorial experiences in materialization. A selected group of students and graduates from Fashion, Product design and Interior architecture explored in multi-disciplinary teams the interaction with materials for concepts of "Material Skins". Skins were taken as a metaphor for the communicative intermediate layer of a wearable on the body, for a product or within a space.
The students investigated in authentic local natural materials combined with new techniques and man-made materials, to value qualities, sensorial properties and their meaning. Experiments showed how hard materials can be made soft, able to move, and how soft materials can be made hard, to act as a construction too.
